 What are acceptable card types?

  • Bank-Issued Debit Card

  • Registered Prepaid Cards

What’s the difference between Prepaid Cards and Bank-Issued Debit Card?

A prepaid card is very different from a bank account debit card. A bank account debit card is linked to your checking account. A prepaid card is not linked to a checking account. Instead, you are spending money you loaded onto the prepaid card in advance.

In most cases, you can’t spend more money than you have already loaded onto your prepaid card.  Overspending can occur with a checking account for some types of uses, and with a bank account debit card if you have “opted in” to your bank’s overdraft program. This means that your bank may charge you a fee for covering the cost of a purchase or ATM withdrawal that exceeds what you have in your account. Your bank will also require you to repay the overdraft.

In addition, right now prepaid cards may have fewer consumer protections than debit cards, such as those that apply if the card is lost, stolen, or other unauthorized charges appear. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has issued a rule requiring all prepaid cards to offer these protections.

I am having difficulty registering my card.  What can I do?

In order to receive a payment from Kickfin, you’ll need to pass our security and ID checks.  This is super simple and allows us to be certain who we are sending funds to.  If you are having difficulty registering your card with us, likely it means that your personal contact information such as:

  • Last Name

  • Social Security Number

  • Address

  • Zip Code

We’d recommend you call your card issuer and get those updated.  Their Customer Service number is on the back of the card you are trying to register.  Then you’ll be good to go!

If you are still having issues – please make sure you are using a Bank-Issued Debit Card or a Registered Prepaid card.  You can check out the differences between an “off the rack” prepaid card and a Registered prepaid card below.

What’s the difference between a Registered Pre-Paid/Reloadable Card and a Non-Registered Prepaid/Reloadable Card?

At Kickfin, we take security seriously.  That being said, we only allow payments to prepaid cards where the user has registered with the card issuer.  Prepaid cards that can be purchased “off of the rack” at your local grocery store or convenience store likely will not work if the card does not need to be registered with the bank issuer.  There are thousands of prepaid cards out there!

What Registered Prepaid Card does Kickfin recommend?

There are a lot of prepaid cards on the market that carry excessive fees to the user: so watch out!  That’s not fair so we hand selected a few “Best in Class” providers.  One standout is the PayPal Cash Mastercard® which lets you easily use the money in your PayPal account to shop online and in-stores everywhere Mastercard is accepted or withdraw cash at ATMs1 worldwide. All with no monthly fee, no minimum balance and no credit check.

The PayPal Cash Card is not a credit card, so no credit check is required.  It’s super simple to get set up.  The only information needed are:

  • Full Legal Name

  • Mailing Address

  • Date of Birth (DOB)

  • Last four (4) digits of your Social Security Number
